  6. Please read the following installation instructions and warnings:

This is TEST software and will only be available here on AOL until we verify that everything is working properly for general distribution of the updater. Please do not upload this document to other on-line services, the Internet, local BBS systems or ANYPLACE other than your own personal computer. This software is NOT TO BE DISTRIBUTED outside of the GSC library on America Online.

  12. We are asking AOL attendees to report any bugs or anomalies AS SOON AS THEY OCCUR, by uploading reports to  GSC JonB. As soon as the software is deemed safe for general distribution, we will lift distribution restrictions and upload the release version of the 1.01 Updater.

  14. For this second test version, we will not have any database changes. Only the application code is being altered. Please do not bother reporting any strange happenings in missions. These will be dealt with in the release patch.

  17. •INSTALLATION
  18.  
  19. Step 1:
  20. Throw away ALL your existing Hornet files. THIS IS IMPORTANT!

  22. Step 2:
  23. Restart without extensions. Install F/A-18 from your original disks as per instructions.
  24. IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT RUN HORNET UNTIL THE PATCH IS PERFORMED.

  26. Step 3:
  27. a) Run the "F/A-18 Hornet Update 1.0.1b2" application. 
  28. b) Locate the existing "F/A-18 Hornet" file and click on "Update."
  29. c) When prompted for a name to save the updated file as, Use "F/A-18 Hornet", and replace the old file.
  30. The Hornet Application is now patched! If you get a message saying: "This copy of  Hornet cannot be updated", you are not working from a freshly installed copy.

  33. • WHAT'S NEW:
  34.  
  35. a) Gear will automatically raise at speeds above 300 Knots. This is in keeping with the real aircraft's computer controlled safety systems.
  36. b) All weapons except the B-57 nuclear device are now available in training missions.
  37. c) 20MM Cannon lethality has been incresed (missiles are the same).

  39. •WHAT'S FIXED:
  40.  
  41. a) Panorama mode is now working properly in both color & B&W modes.
  42. b) HUD now defaults to Black on B&W Machines.
  43. c) It is now possible to select either of two monitors as your main flight monitor.
  44. d) Instruments now draw correctly in all instances under both system 6 and system 7.
  45. e) Custom sound driver has been simplified and now defaults to OFF on all platforms.
  46. f) Problem with de-brief screen causing freezes should now be fixed.
  47. g) "SHOOT" cue will no longer flash while cycling through airborne targets on radar.
  48. e) AGM-62s are now properly rendered on aircraft wings from internal views.
  49. f) Missions will now end automatically when you are out of fuel and the mission objective has not been completed. This is simply an added safety feature to prevent circumstances where missions never end.
  50. g) Ejection seat will now only operate at altitudes above 500 ft. as the manual states.
